Janani SurakshaYojana (JSY) is a safe motherhood intervention under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) with the objective of reducing maternal and neo-natal mortality by promoting institutional delivery among the poor pregnant women. Aident was selected as a field NGO for delivering the benefits of the program directly to the recipients slums in Bhiwani town. We surveyed the area and made a list of women in reproductive age, and one health worker or ‘Sakhi’ as deputed on every 1000 women, to keep track of all the listed women. The job of Sakhi was to introduce the pregnant woman to pre- arranged ante and post natal care including delivery. The whole project was being monitored by CMO office in the district, which appreciated the efforts of AIDENT.
