Total Sanitation Campaign Haryana

The journey in the field of sanitation, which started in 2005 gradually, gained strength and we turned out to be working in more than ten districts of Haryana. This experience in the field of sanitation also reflected in recognition of AIDENT by different districts as a training partner and we were entrusted with conducting more than 20 workshops for the district officials and other NGO partners. Renowned consulting organisation Feedback ventures on behalf of WSP-SA made us the training partners for conducting training in the field of sanitation in all districts of Haryana. The training manual and IEC material on sanitation developed by us is still being used in Haryana. The first village adjudged ODF in Haryana, the first three villages adjudged ODF in Jharkhand are from our project area.

This is in continuum of our effort in Haryana in the field of hygiene and sanitation. Three villages in Bhiwani- Mansarwas, Simliwas and Ladiawali, and one village Gawar in Hisar was declared Nirmal Grams by Govt. of India. Out of this, Mansarwas had the distinction of being the first Nirmal Gram in Haryana. ASWO conducted five Training of Trainers meant for health workers, sarpanchs, govt. officials etc. in Bhiwani. ASWO joined hands with M/s Feedback Ventures, a leading capacity building company, in imparting training of trainers in three districts- Rewari, Jhajjar and Panipat. IEC was another feather in the cap of ASWO in this campaign. Our team started many catchy slogans that have become central to TSC in Haryana. Many banners, posters and calendars were designed by our team; we also prepared a reference manual for trainers and general public. Different handouts were prepared for Panchayat Members, Anganwadi Workers and School Children. The SarlaBahan series of UNICEF was developed by us in the form of comics and distributed in schools, thus immensely popularising the concept of Sanitation and Hygiene among the future generation. Another popular innovation was sanitation calendar, which contained catchy slogans (eg. YataSwatchta, Tata Laxmi etc.). Due to sheer hard work and innovative approach, our TSC team has won accolades from district administration and visiting dignitaries from State and Central Govt.

The Community Led Total Sanitation Approach was first implemented in Haryana by AIDENT. We extended the philosophy of CLTS by not only promoting ODF villages, but promoted the hygienic way of living in every aspect of life. The focus of AIDENT has always been on Behavioural Change Communication, which has helped us to combine approaches and innovate so that true and sustainable behavioral change is brought out in the beneficiaries. To ensure this, another special focus of AIDENT in TSC have been school going children, would grow up to be opinion leaders in society.
